Day 2 of First Aid Training, at my “kampong” : Choa Chu Kang.  13 September 2009.

We had another trainer that day : Jun Jie or Andy. He is a young Police Officer, and an “ex-Nurse Man” ( as introduced by William ). Like William, he is a funny man. However, his sense of humour is very different – very cold. He finds it amusing that hospital emergency department doctors like to amputate patients’ limbs. So, remember : Do not tie up the bandages too tightly!

He made up a story while showing us bandaging techniques on William. Following are the photographs showing the transformation of William.

William kept saying : ”Don’t drop me, don’t drop me!”. Of course, he made it safely home that day.

We were very attentive in class and keen on learning. =) =) =) We took the opportunity to ask questions.  Two questions which we asked :
1. Can we use our legs to do CPR??? Of Course NOT!!! ( by a sexy lady contingent mate last week =) )
2. What if we do not have triangular bandages with us? Use any non-cotton cloth materials. A good choice would be Adidas dri-fit tee. ( see below )

Now, the time comes for us to bandage one another. See some photographs of our masterpieces :

I’m glad all of us passed the paper test and CPR practical test. We will get our certification card within weeks. Hope all of us learnt something and had fun! Cheers!!!

First Aid Training in Sep – Day 1

Monday, September 7th, 2009

~ by Siow Hwee ~

Yesterday, we visited the western side of Singapore, a friendly neighbourhood called Choa Chu Kang (Hooray, to The Westees!!!), for a Standard First Aid Workshop. This is the first day of the Two-Day Workshop, aim to provide us with the basic knowledge and skills in preparation of our long trip ahead.

Our trainer is William, a humuorous tri-lingual man ( Mandarin, English and mainly Hokkien ) who likes to share his stories and experiences during his past trades. His horror accident stories really kept us up on this lazy Sunday morning. He like to “perform” magic tricks too. For instance, the classic trick of pulling up tissue paper from the mannequin’s mouth. I personally appreciate his effort in adding humour into the dry topics. He kept us laughing with his Mandarin-translated vocabulary of Human Anatomy :

“Hole in stomach” – Navel
WC hole – Anus
Breast bone – Rib-cage

But he’s right, we all do understand what he is referring to, right?

I’m glad we have our “Hall of Famed” IT Whiz Boy – Malik to perform first-aid on William’s laptop whenever needed. Malik : Next week just sit right in front will do!

His Special Assistant cum Volunteer, our YL Hyder, spring up from his seat whenever he calls for him. We are proud of our YL, who shows enthusiasm at all times, whether he is needed in front at all, or when he is pushed, poked or pulled by William. Not easy being our YL, eh?

We had 3 meals within the short period of 8 hours – morning break, lunch and tea-break, with lots of leftovers for packing. A pity our Muslim friends were not be able to join us. Hope they enjoyed the packed food at home after warming up. Next week, I’ll try to get less quantity, and more varieties. I’ll cut down in the staple food ( rice & noodles too ) and more snacks instead, agreed?

Next week, we will be doing hands-on : bandaging and CPR. That would be fun!!! More photos to come.

Lastly, in William’s own words, “Ladies & Gentlemen, Boy & Girls (I guess he’s referring to us), study for the upcoming tests next week. Sure no problem, one!!!
