Hikmat

I know you will NEVER read this entry. cos you don’t even really check facebook!! but I just wanna let you know that besides the cliche things which everyone has been saying (i.e. Hikmat really stood out in his life story), which I absolutely agree with, I wanna tell u that u come up with the most hilarious/tacky gangway cheers! HAAHAHAHAH it’s not an insult la. hahaa it’s so cute! with the Soccer song/cheer coming in oso.. hahaah.. It’s so Hikmat. I like your style.  Ok correct me if I’m wrong, but I think u r absolutely filled with love and compassion! It’s such a touching thing to hear the cub story and looking at u, u’ve really come a long way fr what u said u were like!!

I really appreciate u taking so much time and effort to learn ur dance steps, especially that the Malay and Paparazzi dances weren’t easy (ok, ALL the dances aren’t ez for amateurs like us). Thank ur wife for her great support and understanding too!!! I hope that if u can, bring her to show us oso laa!!! Whole day see the husbands of other girls, I need to see some wives tooo!!! :)

Syahmi

I know u expect a lot from our performance, and u’ve put in a lot of effort, composing the songs, doing the sound recording for the mock-up vid, the selection of songs etc. and I’m so sorry that our brain child was to be genetically modified after prolongued deliberations. We’ve tried our best, and I really am proud of ur persistence! I am glad you are so honest about ur views and I am glad that we can talk it out openly face to face. It’s also very heartening to see you exploring various alternatives and taking initiatives in finding alternatives to meet the constraint we are having. Thanks for the support and sharing of burden in the moment of great constraints. Also, though we don’t communicate as often as I’d like to, you get things done by hook or by crook! Thanks for the song clearance!! opps, to end off w that would trivialise this whole thing. But AIYA, we’re always dispersed into various corners of the dance room… It’s only the “I’ve Never” that I got to talk to catch a glimpse of who u r beyond sseayp. and boy was I surprised/shocked. =]

Dennis

Muscle muscle jiu shi li liang… Mr Singapore, u r one weird person. Ok not the best dedication to give I admit. But I am really impressed by your love for violin, n ur quirkiness, n ur cold sense of humour that’s so out of the blue but so refreshing! Esp how u played along with Malik’s joke in ur car the other night! You are so sporting that it’s SO EXCITING To be planning things for u to perform! HAAHAHA I LOVE IT!! and Thanks for being so supportive and so chillax. I always verbally abuse u from time to time, but I’m so glad that you didn’t take it to heart!! And THANKS FOR THAT SWEET BOOZE! I totally “FELL” for it.. literally. hahaha.. But i still want my pinot gris. :P

I really didn’t talk much to you prior to Sat Night, cos u r either in some corner dancing arnd some tree, or u r not there. so… I’ll dedicate a longer n more juicy one after ur wondrous performance ok? :)

Meanwhile.. “Good night Dennis”

p.s. u do very good chicken-dances..

Charles

Thanks for selling ur backside (almost!) I’m always very tickled by your chattiness. U were my public enemy no. 1 for exceeding the life journey time limit by more than 100%!! AND STILL BACKTRACK TO PRIMARY SCHOOL STORIES!! OMG!! but Thanks soooo much for fetching me to nygh the other day despite ur busy schedule.. and thanks so much for going to SIM countless times, knocking on countless doors and being slammed on the face by some pple, n having burnt ur bridges just so that Culture could have a more unconventional/creative venue for PDC. You have been giving me so much good advises on things these days and I just hope that I could translate that into some tangible results, but I suppose there’s a learning curve… :( and I don’t liek to use my brain that much. BOOHOO!!! (-_-!) haha.. I was very touched that u sabo me for First Aid course because it makes the lesson so much funner! and I think that is a show of closeness and friendship! (haha i sound realli pri sch to say sth along the line is “yay! U FRIEND ME!”)

Charles, thanks for rushing down fr ur trainings and competitions too! I noe tt u will help ur dancemates because u haf always been a considerate n sensitive team player! I look forward to more fun on board!!

Garry

Garry, thanks for the car rides home… I sound so user-friendly. but I really missed those times when i haf free transport!!! T_T Free good music oso!! u always got golden oldies!! haahha I have ur CD!!! U know, I can never be more grateful to u for encouraging me to DO THE RIGHT THING with regards to my job and all.. after that, I really see why you are a counsellor! I am glad that you initiate to learn the dances as well! BUT!! WE NEED PEOPLE TO VIDEO THE DANCE STEPS MORE THAN ANYTHING!! SO.. BAI TUO NI LE!!! =]

For PDC, we might need ur help much more than before, so THANK U in advance for helping with the sounds n all!! n realli.. thanks for organising the sat night.. it’s realli v generous of u!! though i must sae.. the gentlemanly part can b improved.. i.e. HELP TO CARRY HEAVY THINGS N GET THE ICE FR THE SHOP LAAA!! :P

Derek

I MISS GOING HOME WITH U!!!! You are so full of ridiculous comments but it’s SO DEREK! I think ur constipated look when we did the “My Bony lies over the ocean” is really king. It’s such a pity I don’t see your sexy ricky martin butt shake for the training much!! GET UR BUTT HERE MORE OFTEN OK!! But thanks for coming for trainings and working the steps out though you are two left feet.. I hope that you do enjoy the process of learning the dance and putting up the performance because much as we are after the result, the process of getting to the result is even more important because that’s what we’re spending 99% of our time on!

I really appreciate the support ur wife gives, coming to first aid course together and all. She has been amazingly understanding! please thank her! I love her hair btw. ;)

Damien

Thanks so much for telling me the thing abt social groups and facades and what-nots. Though it’s purely based on ur own guestimation, it does reflect that u think really highly of me! Thanks so much for being the videographer and uploading all the long videos… Your sense of humour isn’t exactly much better than that of Boon’s but thanks for trying anyway!! :) haha.. you know that we’ll be SG mates in time to come, so I’m looking forward to more great stuffs fr u!! pls praise me more ok! :P

Boon

Hope u r alright. Have not been toking to u in a while.. I really have this innate fear for u! you don’t seem to like me much T_T Then again I think u like me enough to kachiao me.. But most of the time I think you still hate me.. :( Though you hate me, I still think that you are really harmless and nice. Your impromptu and countless attempt at trying to Salsa with me is really touching. I hope that one day we can indeed dance together! Please have more faith in yourself! U definitely know all those steps, you just have to keep believing that you do! I’m sure that it’d b a lot of fun dancing with u as soon as you have a drink or two. :P

Meanwhile, hope all’s well!

Hyder

Thanks for assuring me in times of confusion. Thanks for giving me so much credit for the venue. I really felt very much appreciated by you. You have been really appreciative and sensitive all this while. I think it must’ve been really tiring to try to make everyone happy, cos who will make you happy then? Thanks for sacrificing so much for the contingent and thanks for being such a servant leader. you really lead by example (except the occasional lateness, which I think we all are guilty of.. hehe). I really appreciate it that you would ask me ever so nicely about how I am doing, and you are just so sporting and spontaneous in giving those funny expressions! It’s really cool to have u as a teammate and a leader. BE STRONG HYDER!! U CAN DO IT!

Malik

Dear Malik,

I told you that I’d save the best for last, that is a lie. I realise that after saying so much word of love, I am somewhat stuck at what to say to you! Words become superfluous when it comes to people who matter all the more most to me.

I still remember at teambuilding session, you struck me as someone who is quite funny, but I could never figure out if you were Indian or Malay. That wonder continued all the way even pass our one-day partnership as the leaders during one of the weeks. I never imagined that this chap (yes, you) is to become so close to my heart that it’d hurt to see you down.

You are the life of the party. I always like to say that in PMP, “you can take the malik out of pan, but you could never take the pan out of malik”,  it’s true that malik has become so integral to my involvement in sseayp that I can never have come so far without your support, and I could never have made it without having part of u in my mind when I brace those rough times. “I’ll make a wish for u, and hope it would come true, that life would just be kind, to such a gentle mind… ” =]

Much as I do not believe in pure altruism, I see how altruism is indeed not something to be looked upon as sanctimonity, but something that people like you truly believe in and live to its true spirit.

You defined what passion should be about for me. You taught me how to fight for what I believe in. I never really cared much about a lot of things till you showed me that living is all about caring enough about things to want to make a difference in them. Thank you for teaching me such an important lesson about life. I wish that I could live with as great a passion and certainty as you, some day. =]

From Pan, With Love.

~ by Siow Hwee ~

Yesterday, we visited the western side of Singapore, a friendly neighbourhood called Choa Chu Kang (Hooray, to The Westees!!!), for a Standard First Aid Workshop. This is the first day of the Two-Day Workshop, aim to provide us with the basic knowledge and skills in preparation of our long trip ahead.

Our trainer is William, a humuorous tri-lingual man ( Mandarin, English and mainly Hokkien ) who likes to share his stories and experiences during his past trades. His horror accident stories really kept us up on this lazy Sunday morning. He like to “perform” magic tricks too. For instance, the classic trick of pulling up tissue paper from the mannequin’s mouth. I personally appreciate his effort in adding humour into the dry topics. He kept us laughing with his Mandarin-translated vocabulary of Human Anatomy :

“Hole in stomach” – Navel
WC hole – Anus
Breast bone – Rib-cage

But he’s right, we all do understand what he is referring to, right?

Our Class Photo

I’m glad we have our “Hall of Famed” IT Whiz Boy – Malik to perform first-aid on William’s laptop whenever needed. Malik : Next week just sit right in front will do!

His Special Assistant cum Volunteer, our YL Hyder, spring up from his seat whenever he calls for him. We are proud of our YL, who shows enthusiasm at all times, whether he is needed in front at all, or when he is pushed, poked or pulled by William. Not easy being our YL, eh?

CPR

We had 3 meals within the short period of 8 hours – morning break, lunch and tea-break, with lots of leftovers for packing. A pity our Muslim friends were not be able to join us. Hope they enjoyed the packed food at home after warming up. Next week, I’ll try to get less quantity, and more varieties. I’ll cut down in the staple food ( rice & noodles too ) and more snacks instead, agreed?

Next week, we will be doing hands-on : bandaging and CPR. That would be fun!!! More photos to come.

Lastly, in William’s own words, “Ladies & Gentlemen, Boy & Girls (I guess he’s referring to us), study for the upcoming tests next week. Sure no problem, one!!!

The tension has been building up, the spirit is strong but the flesh is weak. SPY 09! I’m so proud of you for persevering and practising so hard for the items!!

I have to do a shout-out to everyone whom I’ve been working closely with in the past few months, to thank you all.

First up, Jason Lee.

Thank you Jason for treating me as your shrink. It is an honour and definitely my pleasure to be there when you attempt to bitch (but failing terribly eventually cos THAT IS NOT BITCHING! THAT IS JUST STATING FACTS!). I’m so glad that you trust my taste and respect my point of view so much! It really gave me a lot of confidence in myself, and it is definitely one of the deciding factor in my decision to pursue a further degree in Art. You made me rediscover my passion for Art and reaffirmed my desire for it.

You have done so much for the contingent, and for the people around you, volunteering to help things that are not your responsibilities when, to be honest, you have way too much on your plate! :P

Did i mention, I love your comments to all the dancers, the scripts etc. They are inspiring and it is just amazing to see how dedicated and sincere you are, with your comments.

The ONE thing that I love most about you, is your frankness and openness. You are so sincere and open and frank about your opinions and comments, that even if it is a criticism, it is accepted with so much grace by everyone. You are so forthcoming and spontaneous that IT WAS HELLUVA FUN hanging out with you! I don’t have to be afraid that I will offend you accidentally, cos basically we think alike, so we have not much clashes hahaahah and we are open about our POV so there’s no issues UNLESS when u r emo-ing then I feel that I can’t reach u! T_T

Anyway, Jason, you are tired. Take a rest. I’ll be waiting here for you to finish recharging and come back STRONGER and HAPPIER!

Don’t forget, I owe you one Pinot Gris. =]

Next, Chia Ying. [Though the order is usually ladies first (no offence Jason, I didn't mean for it to be that way)]

Thank you for calling me! YOU MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS IN A RELATIONSHIP!! WOOHOO!! lol. Thanks for messaging and calling me ever so often (no, i don’t mean it in a sarcastic manner). I appreciate the over-communication between us, because we just work things out so naturally! I am so used to talking to you these days that it’s just like I’m talking to myself!! (yes, I talk to myself, quite often too).

I truly appreciate your support and understanding. Even your whole family was in this ‘nygh-pdc-venue’ mission. I couldn’t have done it alone (ok this sounds cliche, maybe it’d sound more sincere if I say sth like I would’ve had to camp in nygh for 3 whole weeks before it can be completed. :P )

I love bitching with you. Yes Jason, THAT is bitching. HAHAHA!!

You are the reason why I believe and persist in nygh audi. You are the reason why I love NYGH EVEN MORE now than ever ever… AND You are the reason why I have to bring my charger everwyhere.

Sometimes I wonder, if you are not the sister I never had.. =]

Of course, coming up, Tom.

As I said in my email to you.. “WHY DO YOU LOVE ME SO MUCHHHH!!!?!?!!?!” You are such a darling! YOU ARE ALSO SUCH A BAD COMPANY!! you are always up to some mischievous stunts or tricks but, you know what, THAT IS THE BOMB!

You ALWAYS show so much support in my silly ideas and made me fall in love with the ideas myself! AND it really doesn’t help that you always think of great solutions to those things when I get stuck!! :) You have helped me sooooo much in so many ways.. You also helped out other comms so much!! I really am very glad that we have you on board cos you are definitely a GREAT teammate to have! YOU ARE A WONDERBRA THAT GIVES SUPER SUPPORT!! wOO! (I think Lieja would love that :P )

Really, Tom, your timely and ominous support helped us get by w/o burning out! You, complete us (think Jerry McGuire).

AAAAAAAAAAAAsyikin.

I oso duno wat to thank u except for the bullsh*ts we always have. HAHAHAH you always not around!! DEPRIVE ME OF FUN TIME AND LAUGHS!! BOOHOO.. you are such an interesting character cos you always act shy!!! BUT then I realise, you actually really quite shy!!! ok im toking nonsense.

It’s quite a nice feeling to tok to u and to let things out, cos you are quite open about ur emotions too and in a sense it’s easy to connect with you as a result of that!

AIYA I REALLY REALLY WANT TO GO MAMBO AND ALLLLLLL WITH YOU LEI!! BUT I HAF CURFEW NOWADAYS LAAAHHH!! ESP COS NV SPEND ENOUGH TIME AT HOME!! T_T ok let’s do that as soon as my curfew is lifted ok?? I will be a good girl for you :)

But for ur bday party, I’ll be a bad girl. for u oso. HAHAHHAHAHAHAH =X

THanks for being such a sporting person and having such a cool event for me to be part of!! and thanks for enthrusting such a cool thing on me! I’ll try to satisfy ur inner S. =X

Rizal darling,

Thanks for still putting in so much effort for training and helping to coordinate things and explaining things to me. You are a funny man and I love your bitchy sense of humour! I see that you are under quite a lot of stress these days, but you still try not to let ur mood affect us. Thanks for being such so strong!

I know that I like to rant on small things once in a while, and I’m grateful that you are there to listen to my ranting and would be ever so sensitive to explain to me the way things are. Though I still feel rather in-the-ranting-mood after that, but I feel less inclined to continue feeling that way. if u noe wat i mean. But still ah, sometimes the feeling and mood cannot just disappear like that one. haha.

I know you are a soft person, and you would never do things to hurt others, thats why i sayang u so much. I oso nv sayang other guys like I sayang u u know! EVEN MALIK AND JASON I OSO NV SAYANG AS MUCH U KNOW! even. HAHAHAHAHH =X learn to tkcare of urself more leiii.. dun wan nxt time u get hen-pecked.. LOL! but Malik has a point, u r such a nice n soft n loving person, tt ur future love will definitely not b the will whip u kind.. so no danger of being hen-pecked. :P

Dancing Queennnnn.. young and sweet only seventeennn.. TAMMYYYYY!!

Great move at Zouk ;) yes, I JUST CANT GET OVER IT! and ur retro mambo CDs.. they are like OMG. u r the KING. u trump us all.

I love talking to u on msn as if we are super free.. procrastinating..

You give v insightful and well thought-out advices (not the unconstructive ones that Boon is used to giving.. LOL jkjk :P ) u r such a good catholic girl! V for VENDETTA! WOOHOO! hahaa..

Actually, I think that our convo online are just so inconsequential that, I feel so close to u yet I don’t recall the content much!! OMG! FAIL!! I realli love it tt u r so enthu abt the dances!! N TT U TURNED UP AFT UR WISDOM TOOTH EXTRACTION N DIARRHOEA N WATNOTS FOR THE TRAINING!!! R-E-S-P-E-C-T!

Alvin Alvin Alvin..

Before I go into the prospective discount in spectacles part. (hahaha what a macchiavellian I am!)

Thank you for being such a responsive and responsible teammate! I know that I can always count on you to do sth and not having to chase for it! That really takes a HUGE load off my already big chest. HAHAHAHHAHA =X

Thanks soooo much for all the CD burning, booking of rooms and running around for stuffs! EVEN IN THE MIDST OF UR VERY VERY IMPT EXAM PREP FOR POLY!!!! u r like.. almost selling ur soul!! THANKS!!! SOOO MUCH!!

AND OF COURSE V IMPORTANTLY! THANKS FOR your lovely lovely compliment on how sexy I am! *blush* You know that makes you one of my fav person on earth. :P HAHAHA

all the best for exams and what-nots! I can’t wait to get my spectacles made! =X HAHAHAHAH

JIHAH NAJJJJJJJJJJJJ

I don’t know why but I think I kinda like the way ur body warmth feels when I stand next to u. u r possibly one of the few pple whom I feel the urge to get close to physically, and to hug if I can. Maybe it’s ur tudong, but it’s always got this soft cloth that I want to touch too.

You are also very strong opinionated and open abt ur pov, which is good because then, decisions can be made! I think we pretty much agree on quite a bit of things.. hahaa.. And I totally love it that you are so fun to play along with the Charles joke! HAHAHAHAHHA alright!!! Looking forward to “Wilder” convos and jokes in time to come!!

Lieja!

Thank you for being so tolerating and understanding all the while for all the changes in the scripts and all. I know that I’ve been very insensitive to your effort, and I really love the poems u write and the way u phrase things. It makes me really believe that Art and Poetry are the few things that make this world beautiful and give us “hope for tomorrows” (sounds familiar? hehe). Please forgive me for giving you blow after blow(LOL!! this sounds wrong..), it is reall not because your words aren’t beautiful enough, nor that your concept is anything less than concrete! you are a wonderful writer!

To sth happier but somewhat random! :) ur boom boom is.. DA BOMB. HAHHA U know.. u realli should channel that into our Asyikin’s bdae performance!!! it’d be THE STAR OF THE NIGHT! SO PLS!! WE NEED THAT!!!

Yining my alumni

You mentioned u love NYGH more if we’re using the audi right?? hmm… hahha..they’re having this youth alumni thing coming up… so.. TIME TO DO STH!! hahaha.. I will DRAG U! ahha.. U r such a smart n good girl! Im so proud of u! I think while im like the student that NY wuld be shocked to have produced due to my uncanny behaviours and all.. you’d be the pride of ny realli! You are so innocent and pure! I love it that way! you realy remind me of the good days back in schoool.. Thanks for volunteering to help!! i felt paiseh to ask u to come down! cos it’s quite a waste of time sitting around oso.. at least I can go art room or somewhere to read.. :P

Alright, now it’s time to work on the sexiness of ur getai!!! we’re so gonna work on that ass shaking with waiheng n weijing ok!!

Weijing

I will forever remember the part when u were asked to open ur eyes bigger n u went “that can only be done with plastic surgery” HHAHAHHHHAHAH!!

You have such poignant moment! I’ve not been talking to u much, but as I get to know you more, I really appreciate your quiet strength. Your comments are classic lah! And you are quite crazy I realise!! hahhaa… Catwalking with u is hilarious cos we are just CANNOT MAKE IT. HAHAHAH but that’s the fun part. hahaha.. We’ll get that right. As soon as we have the heels!! “see u on stage, good luck” HAHHA :P

Wai Heng

Ms Singapore, u r possibly the most shameless person i’ve never met! U even thrash me!! omg. Thanks for being such great time keeper n making me realise that there is truly a mountain that is higher than the current one.. esp when it comes to things like self-appreciating comments… (-_-!)

Your electric gazes ah.. can be quite powerful. I saw hints of that. so PLEASE DONE UNTO THE GUYS LIKE RIZAL SUCH GREAT POWER OF URS!! ELECTRICUTE THEM!

Sasi

Thank you for taking your time to learn the dance, trying so hard to do the dance despite ur back injury, and I am so proud of u that u can dance the entire malay dance so well now!!! You are really sporting!! I hope u do enjoy the dances.. :)

Even though it doesn’t feel like it since we STILL have practices N times per week. But nonetheless, we all made it through the 2 months of orientation programme! STILL a full contingent of 28 omg!

HAHA yes yining here and this is my first blog post. Inspired because I somehow felt touched when I saw that cake on Sunday. It’s the sudden realization that HEY! We have actually been together for 2 months! From strangers to friends. We have spent sooooooo much of our time together and even though it was tiring and draining, it’s all worth it because I came to like this collection of weirdoes leaders so so much! Because of this bond, I can finally start to imagine how fun it will be like on board Fuji Maru! Haha YES I finally got excited at this point of time, a little late I know. But better late than never?

Thanks for all the love and kindness within the SPY 09 contingent! (:

Thanks for tolerating my childishness! XP

and most importantly.

THANKS TO ALL THE COMMITTEES WHO HAVE PUT IN SO MUCH EFFORT TO MAKE EVERYTHING GO SO NICELY AND SMOOTHLY!!!! =D

with lotsa <3,

Much has happened over the past few weeks. Too much!

There was the Racial Harmony day, and there was the election of the YL and AYLs, and there were also various talks and other leisure activities.

After being ultra busy with SSEAYP committee work, the writer has decided to go LAZY and do a photo update of the happenings. After all, a picture paints a thousand words.

Racial Harmony 034

Thank you Ms Singapore Continental for your sharing on etiquette and grooming!

Moving on… is our very own SSEAYP 09 Racial harmony parade!

Racial Harmony 005 Lily! Our sponsor for goodie bags and the casual wear contestant!

Racial Harmony 002 Lieja, our best cat-walk model!

Racial Harmony 004 Charles, also now known as the-guy-who-exceeded-the-life-journey-time-limit-nonchalantly-and-still-wanted-to-detour-to-PRIMARY-SCHOOL-STORIES!!! aka the-time-keeper’s-worst-nightmare!

Racial Harmony 003 OUR AN-NELLLLLL.. FARIZAN! more pics of his n his amazing brooch coming up in a while…

Racial Harmony 010 Representing the working class adults/youths (Front: from left to right) Dennis, Garry, Rizal and Derek! (Back: from left to right) Yining and Weijing! Somehow, Weijing has this shocking look on her in this photo, which juxtaposes really well with her victory sign, bringing about a sense of inconsistency which is very telling of the working adult’s lifestyle.

Racial Harmony 006

yes, the writer is blatantly biased in inputting a large size photo of the event of this group. COS THEY JUST LOOK SOOO GOODDD!! Most of Culture Com with Garry and Malik. This HAS to be the most superheros looking shot in the whole series!

Racial Harmony 008

The most scandalous photo of the event goes to the writer and Rizal! Fortunately, it is intentional, so it makes it half as scandalous as it appears to be. Syahmi is the proud editor of the photo, thus the wondrous colours and effect.

Racial Harmony 023

Yining, Sasi and Weijing with the hen-pecked-looking-Chinese-man Boon! Taking a man by his pigtail is definitely much more appealing than taking him by anything else.

Racial Harmony 027

The most confused camera photo of the night. Ladies! The camera is right here!! And Asyikin seems to have an interesting hair pin in the shape of a microphone.. niceee~~

Racial Harmony 026

Clearly the camera-man behind these pics is not very popular with the girls… I wonder…

Racial Harmony 016

of course, how could we forget… the most promising pair photo! awww… moment like this never fails to bring tears of happiness to my eyes.. aren’t they the cutest thing?!?!

Racial Harmony 019

Wow.. the most national-day-looking-pose. Or, the most aspirational and poster-boy&girl pose! Somehow in the background I can hear the song playing.. “there is a new moon arising… out of the stormy sea~”

Racial Harmony 031

What a typical Singaporean shot! And.. it is truly “n’importe quoi”.

Racial Harmony 021

Syahmi looks like he’s trying to conceal a giggle that is going to escape any moment, and Malik just has this post-botox-skin-too-tight-for-any-natural-expression look. Trying to look Mafia? Well, try again =]

Racial Harmony 022

Looking at Farizan’s expression, it’s not hard to tell that the two beside him definitely hold zero threat to anyone.

Racial Harmony 028Racial Harmony 030

Mannequin Malik and fans.

Racial Harmony 046 and the BEST DRESSED go to HIKMAT AND SASI!! Both of them won themselves a beautiful flower and an arts festival goodie bag!

Racial Harmony 032 what a strange pose that the writer had struck…

Racial Harmony 053

RACIAL HARMONY DAY 2009!!

Oh, did I mention? we have a YL!

Racial Harmony 048

Yes, Hyder, you sure look pleased by your new appointment as the YL. We look forward to more pleasing moments like this to come… =] CONGRATS! AYL Chia ying… your glamour outdoor photoshoots is coming up soon, so stay tuned!

All Hail!

It was just the beginning of what happened  to be a long but exciting day. All the SPYs were thoroughly enjoying themselves on the low rope courses when they were handed a new set of challenge altogether….. THE HIGH ROPES!

Looking up from the ground, it has already given some SPYs the chills. Some of the SPYs even declared themselves to be medically certified unfit for height elements. Having said that, the writer himself must confess that he was  FEARLESS…rawr!

Belay Boys & Girls

There were 3 high elements in total and almost everyone had their share of each of them. The heroic NL, however, was given a challenge unlike any other. He was tasked to complete a course blindfolded! Yes folks, you read it right… BLINDFOLDED!

Being the hero that he is, he completed it in RECORD TIME! It must be mentioned that it was only a record as nobody else has ever done such an insane, death-defying, jaw-dropping, flip-over-backwards, eye-poking, spoon-bending, jedi-mind-trick kinda stunt ever! Well other than the writer himself who did it afterwards…….

YOU CAN DO IT!

As the sun slowly sets in the western sky, the SPYs were shepherd to their very own cabins. It was luxurious by any standards, though some of the SPYs could only reminiscence the days when they were camping back in their secondary schools, where sleeping on the  floor was a norm.

The day has not ended. It was time for some night activities. Ms Haslinda was the speaker for the night and she taught the SPYs some very important tips on their conduct and social responsibilities to adhere to while on Fuji Maru.

The end of the night was marked by an unofficial “Milo Party”. Coincidentally there was a hard fought issue on the Milo Table. Two camps emerged from the party. The first and the coolest of them all was called

“The ‘I DIP MY BISCUITS IN MILO’” Gang

And the second was called

“WHAAAaaaat??? DIP BISCUITS IN MILO????!?!!!” Gang

So you see its not that hard to distinguish which is the cooler bunch!

The battlefield was laid out and skirmishes were fought. Casualties were strewn across the floor in gasping laughter as one side tried to convince the other how magical it is when biscuits are dipped in Milo. Victory was called in by the cooler bunch as they managed to convert one member from the opposing gang into their own..HUZZAH!!

Not long after, the midnight trumpet was sounded in the form of Tammy’s ringing phone, and all of the SPYs eventually retreated to bed before further sanctions were called against them.

And for once that day, SHINES Outdoor was quiet and peaceful again.

There’s a new lingo that has been going around among the SPYs of 09, spreading like H1N1.

For the benefits of those who are still foreign to it, allow me to take this opportunity to elaborate on its etymology, its meaning and its application in real life.

Etymology of this word: c.2009, “siow hwee’s hair,” of SSEAYP ‘09 origin.

Meaning: N.A. *Note: not to be confused with the other slang meaning*

Application:

1. when you are bored and you see Syahms stonning. “BANG!!”

2. when you are bored and you can’t find any nearby source of entertainment and Malik/Syahms is/are around. “BANG!!”

3. when you are bored. “BANG!”

Of course, action speaks louder than words. The explosive expression can never suffice as the new fad unless there is a complementary action that goes like thiiissssss(combing your hands from behind to front and..) BANG! (see example below)

BANG!!

It is interesting to note that our dear PYs have emulated the essence of a famous art work by Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein “WHAAM!” in their very original interpretation of pop culture and explosion. (see below for picture of art work)

Roy Lichtenstein “Whaam!”

Before we applaud the two PYs for their great contribution to the local art industry, for their very iconical act that rivals that of the great Pop Artist Roy Lichtenstein, we would first like to draw your attention to yet another sighting of SPYs embracing the vibrant popular culture of Singapore.

Said SPYs (Derek, Garry, Damien, Asykin, Tammy and writer) gathered at local club Zouk one Wednesday for a beer and dance session.

One would have thought that the initiator of the event (the writer herself) would sweep everyone off his/her feet with her killer Mambo moves. Never did they imagine that the diamond in the rough that grabbed their attention that night was in fact Tammy–the up-and-coming closet Mambo Queen!

No, the writer could never hold a finger to Tammy who knew every single song just by the first 3 sec of it playing! ‘Tis in times like these you see the true colours~~ Shining through…

On a side note. Derek’s wife Germaine graciously and sportingly joint the SPYs in their craziness. An interesting incident occurred under the influence of alcohol and loud music: Derek introduced himself to the writer’s friend in the manner “Hi, I’m DEREK”. Upon hearing that, the writer almost lost her cool as she thought he said “Hi, I’m MARRIED” as she wondered what in the world made him do such a thing (though she wouldn’t for a second doubt that Derek is capable of doing things like this).

Before the writer signs off for the happening updates of the contingent members, she’s just like to say… in the spirit of SSEAYP Singapore Contingent 09:

BANG!

It was a hot, sunny and a fare bit hazy weekend but all the SPYs were raring to go, ready to rough it out for the first weekend residential training.

Yes some of us just can't help to pose when there's a camera

Most of us were early to arrive and couldn’t help it but to pose for some snazzy pictures! Nevertheless our two appointed Leaders of the day were Tammy and Jason who did an exceptional job in herding the excited bunch of SPYs to gather their stuff and get ready for the day’s activities.
